The method involves feeding the inductive reactive power in the stator winding of the synchronous motor (10). The three-phase alternating current is fed by a power converter (24) into the stator windings of the synchronous machine. The switching elements (S1 to S6) of the power converter are switched in each case with a switching angle which is larger than 180 degree. An independent claim is included for power converter for operating inner pole synchronous motor.
