The electrosurgical gripping instrument (10) has a cutting electrode, which is movable relative to a jaw portion (120) and in direction of another jaw portion (220) and forms a movable element operatively connected with an actuatable activation device (300). The activation device has a trigger (310) and is designed such that actuation of the trigger causes a force on the cutting electrode acting in the direction of the latter jaw portion. The trigger is coupled with a switch, such that during actuation of the trigger the cutting electrode is acted upon with cutting current during operation.
