The placeholder has cover and base plates (1, 2) made form biocompatible material e.g. medical plastic, or hydrophilic material e.g. titanium or titanium alloy, and forming upper and lower vertebra contact surfaces, respectively. The plates are fastened to upper and lower sides of the placeholder, respectively. A core piece (6) comprises feminine and masculine fastening devices (9, 10) for the cover and base plates. The core piece is made from X-ray-transparent biocompatible material, and the masculine fastening device comprises a cylindrical plug connection i.e. bolt.
