The tensioner has a piston (10) arranged in a position before activation of the tensioner, where a free end (9) of a band (2) is set between the piston and a wall (5) of a cylinder (4) in the position. The piston is formed such that backward movement of the piston up to another position is enabled, where the free end of the band is not set between the piston and the wall in the latter position. The backward movement of the piston is caused by activation of a force limiting device. A bar (13) is provided at the wall of the cylinder.
