The method involves measuring a parameter of a battery (6) at a time period, heating of the battery, and measuring the parameter of the battery at another time period. The difference between the both parameters are determined, and are compared with a predefined threshold value. The defect of the battery is automatically recognized, if the difference exceeds the threshold value. The battery is formed as a lithium-ion cell or a high-voltage battery pack, particularly multiple lithium-ion cells. An independent claim is included for an inspection system as for testing a battery.
