The method involves directly moving an actuator (34) to a starting position after receiving a start signal for starting a motor vehicle engine, and closing a brake (24) i.e. hollow wheel brake, by using the actuator for starting the motor vehicle engine. The brake is opened by using the actuator after the starting of the motor vehicle engine, where correlation of a path sensor (40) is carried out for determining position of the actuator. The actuator is moved to a readiness position after the correlation of the path sensor and before storing of actual position of the actuator. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a starter transmission arrangement for starting a motor vehicle engine (2) a drive train for driving a motor vehicle (3) a computer program product with program-code medium for executing a method for controlling an actuator for operating a brake (4) a computer program with coded instructions for executing a method for controlling an actuator for operating a brake (5) a signal sequence with computer-readable instructions for executing a method for controlling an actuator.
