The method involves measuring and recording a signal representative of electricity consumption and/or signal representative of flow of a fluid transfer installation in a memory at various moments or continuously during operation representative cycle of the fluid transfer installation. Energy consumption of the installation equipped with an electronic speed variator is calculated. Difference between the energy consumed by the installation and regulation existing mode is determined to calculate energy saving potential achievable by installing the speed variator. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a system for diagnosing energy consumption of a fluid transfer installation (2) a method for diagnosing energy saved by installation of a speed variator on a fluid transfer installation (3) a system for diagnosing energy saved by installation of a speed variator on a fluid transfer installation.
