A method of exploiting a sedimentary basin from a stratigraphic simulation of the multilithological filling taking into account the transport of fine sediments. The sedimentary basin is decomposed in geological layers, and each geological layer is subdivided into a series of climatic layers, each climatic layer being associated with at least one constant climatic parameter. A stratigraphic simulation is performed within each climatic layer using a stratigraphic model in which sediment transport is modeled as a continental domain and sediment base is transported to the marine and lacustrine using nonlinear diffusion equations constrained by a maximum erosion rate; and a suspension transport in the marine and lacustrine domain is modeled using an advection and diffusion equation, taking into account a particle falling velocity and a velocity of marine and lacustrine currents. Then, we homogenize the climatic layers belonging to the same geological layer, and we exploit the basin according to the results of the stratigraphic simulation.
