The device (D) has first and second centering units (MC1, MC2) placed along a median longitudinal direction (DL) and spaced from one another by a variable distance. Third and fourth centering units (MC3, MC4) exert pressure on longitudinal edges (BL1, BL2) of a semi-rigid element (T), and are spaced from one another along a transverse direction (DT) at an intermediate level between the first and second units. The units are coupled to define a rhombus shaped deformable structure to position the edges symmetrically on both sides of the longitudinal direction. An independent claim is also included for a semi-rigid element treating installation.
