The method involves providing a sensor e.g. shock sensor, for measurement of radial acceleration of a wheel (2) comprising a pneumatic tire (4) that is arranged with a tread (4a). A set of values detecting variations of radial acceleration is transmitted by a transmitter. A length of revolution corresponding to a length of a sector separating two successive faces of the tire is calculated. A footprint on the ground is calculated based on a plausibility condition and a measured value corresponding to the length of the revolution.
