The method involves evaluating the presence of a control device i.e. key (24) inside a car (10) by emitting an acoustic signal by a CPU (22) of the car. The key is determined to be within the car when the key detects the acoustic signal, where a part of authentication data formed by the CPU is transmitted towards the key via the acoustic signal. A request signal including authentication data is issued by the CPU to the key, where the key issues a response signal including the authentication data to the CPU. An independent claim is also included for a system for authentication of a control device with respect to a CPU of a vehicle.
