PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a configuration for achieving high productivity and high strength, in an electrode for high voltage discharge lamp having a tip thicker than an electrode shaft.;SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing an electrode for high voltage discharge lamp includes the steps of: preparing a small diameter portion becoming an electrode shaft, and a large diameter portion having a diameter which is larger than that of the small diameter portion and constant over the longitudinal direction; abutting the end of the small diameter portion against one end face of the large diameter portion, irradiating one end face of the large diameter portion or the peripheral part thereof with laser, and melting one end face of the large diameter portion so that a melting section covers the outer peripheral surface at the end of the small diameter portion substantially entirely; and melting the portion on the other end face side of the large diameter portion of a coil.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
