Disclosed is a method of improving the visual performance of a human subject without age-related macular degeneration in need of such improvement, the method comprising the step of administering to the subject an effective amount of a composition comprising meso-zeaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin as a dietary supplement or food additive, and wherein performance of the method improves contrast sensitivity.
