PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 5-{4-[2-(5-ethyl-2-pyridyl)ethoxy]benzyl}thiazolidine-2,4-dione hydrochloride in high efficiency, in high yield and in high purity by using 5-{4-[2-(5-ethyl-2-pyridyl)ethoxy]benzyl}-2-imino-4-thiazolidinone as a raw material.;SOLUTION: The method for producing the 5-{4-[2-(5-ethyl-2-pyridyl)ethoxy]benzyl}thiazolidine-2,4-dione hydrochloride comprises hydrolyzing the 5-{4-[2-(5-ethyl-2-pyridyl)ethoxy]benzyl}-2-imino-4-thiazolidinone by one of an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid and an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid containing a 1-4C alcohol, and precipitating the hydrochloride of the objective substance from the obtained reaction solution as it is without carrying out a neutralization treatment.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
