The present invention enables structural optimization having a high degree of freedom, such as the allowance of a change in topology in a material domain , and provides clear expression of the shape of optimum structures. The present invention defines a level set function ; updates the level set function , under a predetermined constraint condition, so as to bring a performance of a structure, such as a rigidity, close to a target value; moves the boundary between the material domain and a void domain; allows a change in topology in the material domain , which is associated with the update of the level set function , to form a new void domain in the material domain ; and moves the boundary between the new void domain and the material domain .
