The invention relates to a method for detecting aquatic contaminants. It can be applied for chromium (III) ion micro amounts detection in aqueous solutions to control the pollution caused by chromium of surface water, groundwater and waste-water. The spectrofluorimetric method is based on the registration of the standard solution and the test solution fluorescence spectroscopy in the presence of fluorescent dye 3-N-(N’,N’-dimethylformamidino)benzanthrone, analysis of the emission intensity dependence of the chromium ion content and the spectral data mathematical processing.
