A hypoallergenic protein that is a sequence variant of the main Bet v 2 allergen and that is characterized by: a) reduced reactivity to IgE compared to the wild Bet v 2 allergen (sec. With No. 5 ident.:1 ); and b) an amino acid sequence that: i. It is at least 90% identical to sec. with no. of ident.:1; and ii. in a sequence alignment with sec. with no. of ident.:1, presents at least one substitution of the Ser or Lys residues that coincide with Ser39, Lys 45, Lys88 or Lys89 in sec. with no. of ident.:1.
