The present invention relates to an elevator capable of generating power, comprising: a cage which is provided in a hoistway formed inside a building to carry passengers or freight; a driving unit for vertically moving the cage along the hoistway; and a power generation unit which comprises a coil part provided in the cage and a magnetic force generating part that is disposed in the hoistway and provides a magnetic force to the coil part such that an induced electromotive force is generated from the coil part according to a change in the position of the coil part when the cage moves vertically. According to the present invention, the elevator capable of generating power comprises the coil part which is attached to the cage and the magnetic force generating part which is disposed in the hoistway at a position facing the coil part such that electric energy can be produced from the coil part according to a change in the position of the cage when the cage reciprocates vertically in the hoistway and the produced electricity can be used as a power source for moving the cage vertically, thereby reducing maintenance costs of the elevator.
