An optical compensation film for a vertical alignment (VA) liquid crystal display and a method for using the optical compensation film to weaken dark state light leakage of the VA liquid crystal display. The LCΔND (liquid crystal optical path difference) range of the VA liquid crystal display is [324.3nm, 342.8nm] when the wavelength is equal to 550nm, the liquid crystal pretilt angle of the VA liquid crystal display is [85 degrees, 90 degrees), the value range of Ro of a single-layer biaxial compensation film of the VA liquid crystal display is 48nm≤Ro≤84nm, the value range of Rth of the VA liquid crystal display is 160nm≤Rth≤280nm, and the value range of a TAC compensation value Rth of the VA liquid crystal display is Y1≤Rth≤Y2. By use of the optical compensation film in the VA liquid crystal display, the shortcoming that the dark state light leakage is severe due to use of the compensation value of the existing single-layer biaxial compensation film can be overcome, contrast and definition of a large viewing angle can be effectively improved, and meanwhile the cost can be effectively reduced relative to a double-layer biaxial compensation structure.
