The device (100) has a storage unit i.e. memory (4), that is utilized for storing data based on a set of measurements from an auto-refractometer (20). A data processing unit (5) is arranged for processing data and connected with a calculation module (51) so as to identify a contact lens e.g. toric lens, based on data output from the auto-refractometer, and complementary data relating to the contact lens to be identified. The data processing unit connected with the calculation module is arranged to identify a position of the lens within a cabinet. An independent claim is also included for a method for selecting contact lenses.
