The present invention provides an electric vehicle, in which a precharge resistor status of a power relay assembly (PRA) is checked without removing the PRA from a battery pack, and a method for detecting the precharge resistor status of the PRA. The electric vehicle according to the present invention comprises a battery pack which supplies electric power; an inverter which converts direct current from the battery pack to alternating current; the PRA which switches on and off the delivery of the electric power from the battery pack to the inverter and includes a main relay, and a precharge relay and a precharge resistor, which are series-connected to each other and connected to the main relay in parallel; a battery management system (BMS) which is directly and electrically connected to the precharge relay of the PRA; a measuring unit which measures a precharge resistor status of the PRA; and a determining unit which determines the status of the resistor by using the measurement result from the measuring unit.
