The present invention provides a scheelite structured metal composite oxide with excellent oxygen ionic conductivity. An embodiment of a metal composite oxide according to an aspect of the present invention is represented by chemical formula M^a_1-xM^b_xM^cO_4+x/2, wherein M^a is one or more kinds of elements selected from alkaline-earth metals, M^b is one or more kinds of elements selected from lanthanide metals, M^c is one or more kinds of elements selected from the group consisting of Mo and W, and x is approximately 0.1 to approximately 0.5.
