Rule-based Inference Engine with Temporal Reasoning

An inference system and method in consideration of time representation are provided to perform time inference through a time index and a network and perform inference rapidly by using Rete network. An inference system(400) includes a user interface(410), a parser(420), a working memory(440), a rule base(450), and an inference engine(430). Information required for inference is inputted to the user interface. The parser analyzes the inputted information. The working memory stores facts of the information. The rule base stores rules of the information. The inference engine respectively transmits the facts and the rules of the information to the working memory and the rule base and infers whether the rules are satisfied using the information, the facts stored in the working memory and the rules stored in the rule base. The facts include time facts and the inference engine infers whether the rules are satisfied using the time facts.
