The present invention relates to a system for monitoring the deterioration of switchgear based on a 2D thermophile array thermal image and a method thereof capable of comprising an array sensor unit which comprises a plurality of 2D thermophile array sensors and obtains thermal images by sensing the temperature of the switchgear; and a monitoring device which measures an area having a predetermined or greater setting temperature level (setting level) from the thermal images, and determines the problems of the switchgear by calculating an average temperature for the corresponding area. The array sensor comprises a lens unit which comprises a lens collecting light from infrared rays; a pixel array unit which comprises a plurality of 2D array type thermophile pixels and converts the infrared rays into the electric signals of the pixels; a signal processing unit which successively reads the electric signals of the pixels which are arranged by the 2D array to process image signals; and an image processing unit which generates a 2D thermal image by using the read electric signals.
