A coal pretreatment method for a direct carbon fuel cell according to an embodiment of the inventive concept of the present invention is characterized by heat-treating coal at a temperature of 800 to 1100C. Also, a direct carbon fuel cell according to an embodiment of the inventive concept of the present invention comprises: a cylindrical fuel electrode support body having one end opened and the other end closed, and using pre-treated coal as a raw material; an anode functional layer (AFL) formed on an outer side surface of the fuel electrode support body; an electrolyte layer formed on an outer side surface of the AFL; and an air electrode layer formed on an outer side surface of the electrolyte layer, wherein the pre-treatment process is performed by heat-treating the coal at a temperature of 800 to 1100C. Also, the direct carbon fuel cell according to an embodiment of the inventive concept of the present prevention comprises: a cylindrical fuel electrode support body having one end opened and the other end closed, and using pre-treated coal as a raw material; an AFL formed on an outer side surface of the fuel electrode support body; an electrolyte layer formed on an outer side surface of the AFL; and an air electrode layer formed on an outer side surface of the electrolyte layer, wherein the fuel electrode support body is formed by using a paste containing nickel/yttria-stabilized zirconia cermet, the air electrode layer is formed to have a multi-layered structure in which an LSM-YSZ layer, an LSM layer, and an LSCF layer are sequentially formed, and the pre-treatment process is performed by heat-treating the coal at a temperature of 800 to 1100C.
