1. A method for identifying compounds that selectively alter the expression of wild-type genes of a plant cell, the method comprising: (a) comparing (i) a first expression profile from a plant cell or tissue brought into contact with the first test compound, (ii) an additional profile expression from a cell or tissue of the same plant contacted with an additional test compound, and (iii) an expression profile with combined compounds from a cell or tissue of the same plant contacted with the first test compound under investigation and a further test compound, wherein each cell or plant tissue was contacted for a time sufficient to create the alteration of expression of at least one gene or gene product in the cells or plant tissues; and wherein each expression profile contains a level or pattern of expression of at least one gene or gene product of a cell or plant tissue; and (b) the identification of a significant, unexpected alteration of the expression level or pattern between genes or gene products of the profile with combined compounds and total alterations of the first profile and additional profile. The method according to claim 1, further comprising the steps of: (c) contacting a plant cell or tissue of the same plant with one of: (i) a first test compound; (ii) an additional test compound; or (iii) a combination of a first test compound and an additional test compound; and (d) creating (i) a first expression profile from a cell or plant tissue brought into contact with (c) (i); (ii) an additional profile�
