The system has a fuel cell provided with a supply conduit (7) and an exhaust air duct (8). A passive valve unit (14) is arranged in the supply conduit and the exhaust air duct. The valve unit is provided with a flap (15) that is pressed against operating fluid (19) by the force of a restoring element (17). A thermostatic element (18) is held by the flap below a predetermined temperature in a partially open condition. The flap is operatively connected with a pressure chamber, so that the opening of the valve is affected or assisted when pressure is applied to the pressure chamber.
