The method involves applying a pulse voltage signal (UG) by varying the pulse voltage values between a network (2) and earth (PE) extending a generator branch. Power conductors (L1,L2) are fitted to the earth, such that the power line voltage signal from insulation resistance (RE,CE) to the ground is provided as a measuring voltage signal separated over the generator branch. A measuring branch is provided between the network and earth, for monitoring and evaluating the insulation resistances. An independent claim is included for a device for monitoring insulation resistances of underground DC system, AC system and mixed network.
