The method involves providing a position signal which is characteristic of the position of a motor vehicle (1), and providing the image information by a stereo camera, which has the spatial information of a partial area around the motor vehicle. The location of one or multiple image persons in the partial area around the motor vehicle is detected and determined based on the image information. A respective estimated position of the detected image person is determined based on the image information and the position signal of the motor vehicle.
