The method involves adjusting operation conditions of household appliances such as washing machine (2) and cooktop (3), with a portable operating device (4). The operating device is attached to one of the household appliances in arranged state at one mode, where the operating device operates one of the domestic appliances in off-hook state at another mode that is different from the former mode, during another operating condition. Circumferences of two household appliances are discriminated by peripheral number, type and/or the functional integrity of the operating conditions. An independent claim is also included for a system for operating a household appliance accommodating system.
