The method (57) involves determining (63) a prognosis variable, which characterizes a probability that activation of a vehicle temperature-control device is reasonable before start of a motor vehicle. The prognosis variable is transferred (69) to a remote control device, which is provided outside the vehicle. An external temperature and an air humidity characterizing environment conditions in an environment of the motor vehicle, are detected (65). The prognosis variable is computed based on the external temperature and the air humidity.
