The coupling device has a cam plate (12) which is provided with several cams (44), and pocket plates (14,18) has several pockets. Several struts (32) are located in one of the pockets. An electromagnet engages one of the struts with one of the cams, has a coil (24), a core and poles extend from the coil to strut. A gap is formed between the poles and the pocket plate exceeding a gap between the poles and strut.
