The method involves emitting light from a light source (6) e.g. polychromatic source, on a material surface. The light re-emitted by sensors on the material surface is detected. An intensity of a light re-emitted and collected is evaluated after separation of the light source from sensors. Propagation distance and the intensity of the light are provided in a form of curves. The curves are processed corresponding to blue and green colors to determine slopes in the curves. A rear slope of a curve of intensity of the light is estimated in red color. An independent claim is also included for a device for measurement and evaluation of optical characteristics of diffusing material.
