PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality while extending the life of a light source.;SOLUTION: A projection type video display device 100 includes a light source unit 130 that emits light according to a current applied, a color creation unit 150 that is provided on a light path of the emission light from the light source unit 130 and rotates at a predetermined rotation period to time-divide the emission light so as to create rays of light in a plurality of colors, a light modulation unit 180 that modulates the rays of light in a plurality of colors created by the color creation unit 150 on the basis of input video signals, and a control unit 200. The control unit 200 sets a current value of a current to be applied to the light source unit 130 and a polarity inversion timing at which the polarity of the light source unit 130 is inverted according to the components of the color of the input video signals, applies a current at the current value to the light source unit 130 while inverting the polarity of the light source unit 130 at the polarity inversion timing in synchronization with the rotation of the color creation unit 150, and shifts the polarity inversion timing according to a change in the components of the color of the input video signals.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2015,JPO&INPIT
