PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide cooling equipment capable of keeping a storage container spray running by preventing the rise of the water level in a suppression pool in a nuclear reactor container which results in a wet well vent pipe outlet being submerged in water when injecting water into the nuclear reactor container by activating the storage container spray, and a method for operating the cooling equipment.SOLUTION: Provided is a nuclear reactor plant which comprises: a nuclear reactor storage container 12; a storage container spray sparger 32 in a dry well 13; a storage container spray pipe 33 for providing cooling water to the storage container spray sparger 32; an external tank 34 installed outside the nuclear reactor storage container 12 for introducing and storing the cooling water from a suppression pool 15 when a nuclear reactor accident occurs; a storage container spray return pipe 37 for providing the cooling water in the external tank 34 to the storage container spray pipe 33; and a heat exchanger 39 for cooling the cooling water transferred from the suppression pool 15.
