PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solvatochromic dye for detecting an organic halogen compound in a sample with excellent sensitivity, and to provide a method for detecting organic halogen compound using the solvatochromic dye.;SOLUTION: The solvatochromic dye is represented by formula (1). In the formula (1), Rs each independently represents hydrogen or an alkyl group. Further, A is a linear chromophore moiety. B is an electron donating group.
