PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel asymmetric catalyst that can produce optically active carboxylic acid ester with high yield and high enantio selectivity, and methods for producing the optically active carboxylic acid ester, an optically active alcohol and optically active carboxylic acid using the asymmetric catalyst.;SOLUTION: The novel asymmetric catalyst is a compound represented by formula (a) or (b) (wherein X is phenyl or the like, and Y is an organic group) or an enantiomer thereof. The asymmetric catalyst is used in a reaction between a racemic secondary alcohol and carboxylic acid or in a reaction between racemic carboxylic acid and a specific alcohol or a phenol derivative. An enantiomer of one of the racemic secondary alcohol and racemic carboxylic acid is thereby esterified selectively to produce the optically active carboxylic acid ester or the like.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
