INHIBITION OF INTERLEUKIN-6 (IL-6) RECEPTOR PROMOTES PANCREATIC ISLET TRANSPLANTATION

摘要

The present inventors investigated anti-IL-6 receptor antibodies for theireffect insuppressing damage to transplanted islets after islet transplantation. As aresult, they found thatanti-IL-6 receptor antibodies reduced damage to transplanted islets, improvedislet survival, andcorrected hyperglycemia in recipients. Further, they revealed thatadministration of theanti-IL-6 receptor antibodies of the present invention suppressed theproduction of inflammatorycytokines by infiltrating cells after transplantation. Specifically, thepresent inventorsdiscovered for the first time that damage to transplanted islets after islettransplantation can besuppressed by using anti-IL-6 receptor antibodies according to the presentinvention.
