Systems and methods are provided for identifying non-insurance relatedfinancial assistance opportunities for patients as part of the processing of ahealthcaretransaction. Upon receiving a healthcare transaction from a healthcareprovider, the serviceprovider can identify non-insurance related financial assistance opportunitiesfor the patient.The service provider can reject the transaction and transmit the rejectionalong with amessage identifying the non-insurance related financial assistance opportunityto thehealthcare provider and await a resubmitted healthcare transaction. In otherexamples, theservice provider can process the healthcare transaction and include a messageor codeidentifying the financial assistance opportunity in the healthcare transactionor an adjudicatedresponse to the healthcare transaction. In another example, the serviceprovider can identifycontact information for the patient identified in the healthcare transactionand can transmit amessage identifying the non-insurance related financial assistance opportunitydirectly to thepatient via the contact information.
