Provided is a linear motion mechanism for a tire vulcanizer capable of adequately performing position control of bladder extension height, shaping height, etc. and of handling tires of different sizes. A hydraulic drive center mechanism (1), which is an example of a center mechanism for a tire vulcanizer that is an application of the present invention, is provided with a bag head (2) and a hydraulic cylinder (3). A cylinder tube (4) is formed with thick walls and a sensor hole (7) is provided near the outer circumferential surface. The sensor hole (7) penetrates the bottom surface of the cylinder tube (4) and a heat-resistant, flexible linear sensor (8) is inserted therein.
