The invention relates to a freeze-dryer that permits the freeze-drying of low-volume samples (12) to temperatures lower than -50 °C without the need for power-consuming mechanical elements, such as a condenser or a vacuum pump. The freeze-dryer comprises a freeze-drying chamber (8) provided with a first sub-chamber (9) and a second sub-chamber (10) that can be separably connected to one another, maintaining fluidic communication. The freeze-dryer also comprises a first receptacle (3) provided with a first portion (4) which contains an adsorbent product (6), and which will be submerged in liquid nitrogen (50), said freeze-dryer also comprising a second portion (5) that is thermally insulated and connected to the first sub-chamber (9). In addition, the freeze-dryer comprises sealing means (15) designed to provide a seal between the first sub-chamber (9) and the second sub-chamber (10) in pressure conditions no greater than 0.2 Pa inside the freeze-drying chamber (8).
