A method of a server and an apparatus for establishing a social relationship between participants in a communication system providing an Immersive Social Centre (ISC) service are provided. The method includes generating information about a contacts group for at least two participants of a social service chat or session and a social relationship of the participants; notifying the generated information to at least one of the participants; and sending a social relationship setting request to at least one other participant of the at least two participants excluding the at least one of the participants notified of the generated information.
