The present invention relates to a method for isolating and purifying oleanolic acid from a methanol extract of Akebia quinata Decne and a composition including the purified oleanolic acid, the method comprising the steps of (a) preparing freeze-dried fruit powders of Akebia quinata Decne; (b) extracting the prepared fruits using methanol; (c) separating the extracted fruit fractions into an ethyl acetate soluble part, a butanol soluble part and a water soluble part; (d) hydrolyzing the butanol soluble part; (e) extracting mixtures of the hydrolyzed butanol soluble part again by using ethyl acetate and washing the same with distilled water; and (f) separating the washed mixture by using silica gel. In the present invention, oleanolic acid isolated and purified from the methanol extract of Akebia quinata Decne fruits has a capability of inhibiting NO generation, significantly increases anti-oxidant capacity depending on concentration and has anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015
