Disclosed in the present invention is a method for video decoding with symbol decoding. The disclosed method for video decoding comprises the steps of: parsing symbols of image blocks from the received bitstream; classifying current symbol into prefix bit string suffix bit string based on threshold determined based on the size of current block; performing arithmetic decoding by each arithmetic decoding method individually determined for prefix bit string and suffix bit string; and performing inverse-binarization according to each binarization method individually determined for the prefix bit string and suffix bit string after arithmetic decoding.
