Process and method for producing a better lubricant or fuel blending component by oligomerizing or alkylating a mixture containing olefins and isoparaffins to produce an alkylated, capped olefin oligomer by means of an acid chloroaluminate ionic liquid catalyst system. The catalyst system preferably contains a Bronsted acid.
