The present invention relates to a process for conversion of a load comprising levulinic acid mono - alcohol, in the presence of hydrogen, the said process operating in a step, at a temperature of between 80°C. and 250°C, at a pressure ranging from 0,5 and 20 mpa, and in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metal of groups 7 to 10 chosen from the plate (pt), the ruthenium (uk), the iridium (ir), rhenium (re), said metal being used alone and a support selected from among titanium oxide (tio2), zirconium oxide (zro2), and the silica (sio2), taken alone or in mixture. The process according to the invention makes it possible to obtain the butanol, and preferably of the 2 - butanol with a selectivity of greater than 15% molar,
