The method for analyzing sediment samples includes the steps of: taking microscope images of the samples; pretreat the images to extract areas of interest; analyzing areas of interest using artificial neural networks to first classify objects between groups of nannofossil species; analyzing the areas of interest by at least one morpho-statistical recognition method for operating a second classification of objects between the groups of nannofossil species; and collecting the results of the first and second classifications into at least one file indicating the groups of nannofossil species respectively assigned to the areas of interest by the first and second classifications.
