The process data gateway (1) has a web socket server to accept a request for reading or writing process data according to a process data protocol. An interface serves as an interface to a process data server and is formed to send the request for reading or writing process data to the process data server. The web socket server receives a Hypertext transfer protocol request from the process data-client. An independent claim is included for an automation system with a web client.
