The present invention pertains to a device to be worn by a first person that is hearing impaired, in order to aid this person in understanding a speech of a second person directed to the first person, the device comprising a sensor for detecting sound waves corresponding to words used in the speech and converting these sound waves into a first signal, a converter for real-time converting the first signal into a second signal that corresponds to the words, presentation means for presenting the second signal to the first person, wherein the device comprises means to assess the understandability of the second signal and means to provide the second person information corresponding to the said understandability of the second signal.
