PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a label detection device that facilitates detection of a position where a mailing label is attached even when envelopes with various patterns are mixed.SOLUTION: A label area detection device comprises: a white extraction part that extracts a white component by performing HSV conversion converting a color space of an image into an HSV color space; a white article determination part that determines whether an article is white on the basis of the extracted white component; a uniformity determination part that determines whether the density of the image is uniformly distributed; a density histogram part that measures a histogram of the density distribution; a hole determination part that determines whether the area of white occupying a hole determination area including the white component extracted by the white extraction part is larger than a predetermined value; a label hole filling part that performs hole filling processing on the white area determined to have the area of white occupying the hole determination area larger than the predetermined value; and a destination label area estimation part that estimates an image area of a destination label on the basis of the measured histogram of the density distribution or the white area on which the hole filling processing has been performed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10
